Now that Maddie is WILD ABOUT BLOGGING, she’s encouraging me to post! As much as I enjoy blogging, I do have other stuff to do. However since today that “other stuff” means cleaning the house, who am I to argue? Welcome therefore to our *super special* joint post about PLAYMOBIL.
For those of you w/out children, Playmobil are toys. The coolest toys this side o’ paradise. In the past several months my kids have become addicted to all-things-Playmobil, and frankly – who can blame them?
Here are some of my favorites:
Guinea Pig Pen
BunnyLand Farm Set (is there anything cuter than a bunnyman w/ his own DEER??)
Hot Dog Cart Guy (w/ “authentic” weiners!)
BARBARIANS
Vulture Set w/ lifelike carrion
Months ago I posted about this little discovery for the criminally minded: SAFE CRACKERS.
Any company who goes into this much detail about every facet of life (criminal life included) gets my vote. That’s for sure. I am ALLLLLLL about realism. Even w/ my kids. No Stork Tales at our house, my friends! I haven’t checked, but I’d bet Playmobil’s even put together a true-to-life version of delivery, complete w/ little mommy and baby, placenta and cord. I’M SO THERE.
My daughters spend hours, and I mean hours, perusing the Playmobil site, gazing in wonder at all of their amazing toys, and compiling list after wish list of sets they would like to buy when they earn enough allowance. Daily they ask me, Mommy, how much have I earned so far?? Can I afford such-and-such? To which I reply, I don’t know. I am not sure. Save_your_money.
It’s not that I begrudge them these wonderful toys – b/c they are indeed awesome and make me want to play w/ them as much as my kids. It’s just that their Playmobil obsession just happens to conveniently coincide w/ my current lessons on financial independence. I just instituted weekly “chores” and remuneration for good works. So how am I supposed to drill into my daughters the value of hard work and saving, the importance of managing money well, when all they want to do is spend it as quickly as they earn it??
Oh well. They are young. Life is for fun. And BOY will we have a WHOPPING WORLD OF FUN!!!!! playing w/ all our their new Playmobil sets!!!!! Pssst. Don’t tell them I said so.
aaah yes the safe crackers – now there’s a toy to encourage creative solutions in children!
you know it’s a sad day when your daughter starts getting more hits than you and i together. she’s the new dooce.
Can I just tell you how CUTE you guys are? I love that this is a ‘family affair’. 🙂
BTW, it’s the carrion I find hilarious!
John, you are tooo funny. LOVE YOU BABE!!
Curl, you ain’t kidding. I don’t know much about Dooce – I went to her site once to enter a contest, but when I saw 34,000 people had entered before me I just clicked off. That is CRAZY!
Hayden, you are just too sweet. And the carrion is HYSTERICAL. I’m telling you babe, just WAIT till you have kids. or better yet – do like Curly’s husbandito and just collect the toys w/out the hassle & expense of breeding!
Oh man, I have to go to Mapes and get some cool Playmobil stuff! She’s almost the right age, but hell, we let her play with coins and scissors already, so I’m sure Playmobil is fine!
I am all about not sugar-coating things too… I just read the original version of the Three Little Pigs. I had no clue the first little pig didn’t run to the second little pig’s house!
Vulture set cracks me up! Love Maddie’s new site. I hope you have your scarf! Check on Saturday or Monday!!! and let me know.
Fantastic… wonder if I should have another kid so I have an excuse to get some. Or maybe I could just buy Andrea some, even though she is thirteen and very mature (Doncha know! ;o)
I could always say that I misheard her when she said “can I have a new mobile?” :o)
These are cute sets. With my guys it was always legos – which I wasn’t allowed to touch, because they would fall apart if I did!
when are you coming home?!?!!? i misses ya.
Laura, playmobil are FINE — if Lil swallows them, they’re small enough to just come out the other end. WELL at least MOST OF THEM. Good lUCK! 🙂
Connie, the vulture set is the BEST. Thanks so much for the sweet comment on Mads’ site & THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR THE SCARF. I love it. Truly. You are Wonderful. xoxoxo
Daff – I have thought about another child as well. But I think it’ll be cheaper just to give in and buy them for myself. PLUS I won’t have to share!
Tracie, I love Legos too. I had many friends (boys) who had sets, but they’d never let me play w/ them. Oh well, guess their legos are now keeping them warm.
CURLY _ I missed you TOO!! Was going to bring you home some sweets from Mother Myricks but when we walked there – they were GONE. 🙁 I ate one of the best sundaes EVER there years ago… WHAT A LOSS…..
My son would love these. His into building things. His favorite currently is Lego Star wars.Great post.
Thanks IT — my youngest has been eyeballing the Harry Potter lego sets for some time.. too bad they’re SO expensive!
We are going through a major playmobil phase….so I share your sentiments..best eveeerrrr!!
The funniest thing is that I find them EVERYWHERE. All over the house, in the car — they pop up in the washing machine. Sometimes I feel like they’ve invaded and are reproducing! LOL
